Valerian Officianalis
Valerian is an extremely popular herbal sedative as effective as Valium, but it is non-addictive and does not cause the side effects associated with narcotics.
Valerian acts on the cerebro-spinal system and is used in cases of nervous unrest, anxiety, stress, insomnia, and neuralgic pain. It generally calms, relaxes tightened muscles, induces sleep and relieves pain.
Valerian also has a long history of treating epilepsy; this use of the herb was first brought to notice in 1592 by Fabius Calumna when he reportedly cured himself using valerian. However this is a risky method of control and should not be under taken without the supervision of a qualified health care practitioner.
Warning- Valerian can increase the effects of other sedatives and there for should never be mixed with any other sedative of any kind.
If to large a does is repeatedly taken Valerian can cause headaches, insomnia, lethargy, or even excitability and restlessness.
